Physical Education

Our Physical Education program is a comprehensive curriculum that meets the California State Board of Education Standards. Each class receives 1 hour of P.E. instruction by a fully credentialed P.E. teacher.

Our program engages students, regardless of their physical ability, and progressively builds on their skill level throughout the school year. The curriculum emphasizes movement skills and movement knowledge, self-image and personal development, and teamwork. Students participate in a diverse range of noncompetitive and competitive activities.

Our program also helps students reach or surpass benchmark standards of the Presidential Challenge and the California Fitness Test.
P.E. Instruction is also supplemented by movement and wellness led by Champ Camp, a program made possible by Friends of Playa Vista and the generosity of our community.

Summary
Champ Camp’s Physical Education (P.E.) curriculum is designed to promote physical fitness, creativity, socialization, inclusivity, positivity, and overall health and wellness among elementary school students. The program spans a 9-month school year, meeting twice per week, and can easily be adjusted. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes, providing students with ample opportunity to engage in a variety of physical activities and develop their motor, cognitive, and social skills.

Champ Camp!
At Champ Camp, we blend our "High Fives & Good Vibes" philosophy with the highly
acclaimed SPARK Physical Education program. SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active
Recreation for Kids) is recognized as an "Exemplary Program" by the U.S. Department of
Education. Research indicates that students participating in at least three 30-minute
SPARK P.E. sessions weekly perform as well or better on standardized academic tests
compared to their peers.
The SPARK P.E. program is uniquely structured to support educators in leading inclusive,
high-energy activities that integrate academic and wellness principles, and physical
movement and knowledge. These activities are not only fun for all students but also
crucial for developing motor, cognitive, and social skills.
Our "High Fives & Good Vibes" approach complements SPARK by ensuring that students
are consistently engaged in a positive and encouraging environment. We focus on
making every session enjoyable and inclusive, so no child feels left out or last-picked.
This philosophy ensures that every student experiences a sense of accomplishment and
joy while participating in moderate to vigorous physical activities.
We are dedicated to fostering a culture of health, wellness, and active living at Champ
Camp. We would be grateful for the opportunity to mesh our program with the P.V.E.S.
community in this new capacity!
